Student Spotlights

Highlighting the future of scholarship with cultural, religious, and theological depth.

Samuel Ferrell

Exploring theological parallels between the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh and the Hebrew Bible, this honors-level student paper offers a compelling reflection on divine encounter, mortality, and the inspiration of Scripture in light of ancient Near Eastern context.

Abstract

This paper examines literary and theological parallels between the Epic of Gilgamesh and selected narratives in the Hebrew Bible, including the wrestling of Jacob, the flood account of Noah, and the wisdom of Ecclesiastes. Drawing on scholarly sources and ancient themes, the author explores the concept that the Hebrew writers were culturally aware of existing Near Eastern texts and may have used them as theological polemics within their own Scripture.
